I can’t believe that I’m going to fess up to this, but today is the end of 2013 so here goes. Its been so long since I’ve blogged that I forgot my password! (Imagine me with my hand covering my face in shame) Can you now guess what my New Years resolution is going to be for 2014? If you guessed blogging then your correct… winner winner chicken dinner!
This year has been quite the ride. It started with opening my first studio space, then graduating college, completing my second and very successful year in business, having a child start driving and one started kindergarten just to list a few. August was my busiest month topping out with meeting 49 new families, 2 weddings and 2 newborns and it just kept going from there.
At WPPI last year I was walking through the convention area checking out booths when I came across one with sports photography. Walking away from the booth with all the information they had, I was telling myself “you can totally do this, did you hear her? she said it was so much fun and very profitable” Wow was she right!!!! As of September I was the new photographer for my towns youth sports programs. Goal 1 from WPPI was in the bag and that sure felt amazing.
Another opportunity that came up was photographing events for Samaritan North Lincoln Hospital Foundation. Through the events that I worked and connections I made I’ve photographed more families and events. Believe it or not my work is now hanging in the hospitals birthing wing.
Living in a small community sure does have it’s rewards and challenges but I’ve worked very hard to work with it. This year I was asked to photograph Prom 2013 for the high school which lead to photographing the school dances for 2013/2014 also. I’m having a fabulous time and am counting down the days till Prom 2014 which is going to be the BEST YET!
I really love photography and pushing myself to try new things. There are days that I look at my work and criticize every little detail. I’ve also realized I’m my own worst critic. My goal for 2014 is to blog more, attend at least 1 mentor session and submit some of my work for publication. I’m excited to see what this year brings my business and I hope to have a little more down time to spend with my family. As for New Years Day 2014 we will start it off by traveling to Seattle for a much needed mini vacation!
Happy New Year to you and yours, I look forward to sharing more with you in the weeks and months to come!
XOXO ~ Shannon
